Fresher's Resume/ CV

Many of my students have completed their Graduation and are out in the world for jobs. Most of the time I have been asked about what should a resume/ CV must have to describe the best about you.  I will start with defining what a Resume/CV is and what it should have (for a fresher only, as this post is for my students' reference).

So What is a Resume?
Well it is a written document containing summary of your experience and education. For a Fresher this will include your complete educational background, activities and causes you were involved in and our major accomplishments.

This will also include information about your skill set, hobbies.

Note: Hobbies let the recruiter know what tempts you and what you are passionate about and moreover if you are passionate at all (:P). Many times I have seen my friends copying hobbies from some other resume, like they typed "cricket" and when recruiter asked whats a LBW is they no nothing about it. so write the truth... you can also skip hobbies section.

What a resume shall have:

As a college graduate I did not participated in any of campuses at college so I had to walk a long distance for job search. Since those days till today I have undergone 4 successful career transitions and here I will tell you what my resume is about.

A resume shall have following Heads/Headlines/Titles whatever you call it.
  • Name, email, contact no. at the top.

  • Career objective/ resume headline: This describes what you are and what you are looking for. Example: Mechanical Engineer seeking full time position to learn, establish and grow.
  • Experience (if any):
  • Educational qualification (for a fresher this shall have a detailed scorecard with each semester SGPA and CGPA), Higher Secondary details and High School Details shall be of final Score only.
  • Skills: This can have two sub heads "Software skills" and "Skills", add your computer skills, software you have worked upon and your personal skill set.
  • Training/ Internships: Briefly and point wise describe the training and internships you have undertaken.
  • Accomplishments: Have you been to school/college Cricket team, you you have won that Math Olympiad? Whatever you this you have accomplish and is of social value add it here.
  • Personal Info (these days this may not be included, I will prefer including as a fresher for a safe side. This consist of your name, address, DOB, etc (it should be point wise). If you have already mentioned your address in Header then do not type it again. Never repeat any information in your resume.

I hope this will help.
Have a great future ahead. :-)

Why to take a step back when you can take a step forward.

Hi Guys!

Thanks for reading my blog :). It is not like I'm getting 100s of readers but it is the fact that reader are from various part of world that is making me feel good. Thank You.

The problem.
While taking a walk after dinner, listening to music a thought again came to my mind.
"I should change my job".
I am so always thinking about changing my job these days. If I'll be successful in this, it will be my 5th career transition.

Obviously this not only thrills me but shivers me inside. Changing your workplace/ profession opens door to a new social and professional environment. Maybe you have to start it all from scratch- making relations, understanding the organization and the process involved. For me this has always been fascinating.

As more thoughts ran into my mind I felt I should go back to any of organizations I have worked with earlier. Seems my mind wanted to play it safe.

The realization.
But then, I came this far taking risks and thinking what people around me were unable to think to prove myself- ‘Yes! This can be done.’ So, just because my heart is pounding against present situation doesn’t mean I should step back.  What I can do is take the steering in my hand move my career vehicle to right path. This can be done my understanding and facing situation in hand, analyse it and conclude a result. Ultimately result is not in our hand, all we can do is giving it a try. That is what I’m going to do.

I would like people reading this to share their experience and problems also.

Need of the Hour..

What is the need of the hour?

Is it secularism?
Is it industrial/ Technical Growth?

 I don't think so.

The need of the Hour is:
To make people learn and understand about environmental changes.
To initiate and adapt changes in lifestyle and living - to preserve earth.
To make everyone understand there is something more important than religion, Borders, caste, race ... it is humanity.

This should be basis of our education system.
We learn and adapt in the beginning years of our life cycle.
Why don’t we educate young minds on being liberal, preserving earth and also respect women.

If we feed our coming generation with these principles, we'll be able to have a truly educated society in near future.
We all need to give up our egoism and our competitiveness to cherish human race and nature.

I am writing this on account of what I’m seeing as part of promises by leaders for General Election in India and People around me, at my place or at my office or anywhere I meet.

Still Life (3rd entry)

Just before going to bed he poured some more Scotch into his glass... another ritual he required for sleep. Sleep... a state where nervous system is inactive and consciousness practically suspended... state where he wanted to be forever...

"Soon this all be gone" He said again ... finished his drink and dropped himself on bed... few minutes later the apartment was filled with his snores...

Morning has to come...

Still Life (2nd entry)

As he finished the drink, rubbed burned cigarette butt on the wall which has signs that this scrapping was a ritual... the turned to go back to the room. His attention was caught by a pigeon trying to adjust itself in small space on the wall.

"Birds... Now they have no trees to live upon... they settle themselves in tall buildings, towers and poles. There is no bird community here... while at trees there are hundreds of them chirping... in mornings and evenings..." he thought.

His lifestyle has left no space to enjoy the little things in life... there was a time when he used to keep enough grains for these birds. He came back into the room... looked around and asked himself... is this what I always wanted? was it for money? was it for family? was it for self satisfaction? what was it for that he's living this way since last two years?

Still Life

He came back from office... unlocked door, removed his shoes, kept aside his leather bag, sat down on that rocking chair and closed his eyes...

The first teardrop started from his left eye and then followed from the right.
his heart rate grew... his mind was striking back one after another all the negative thoughts... "You have made a terrible mistake" his mind said... "Think about your family"...

He stood up... grabbed one of those cigarettes from the table and lighted. Made himself a Johnny Walker and took his steps towards balcony...

"Soon this all be gone" he whispered...
